Excellent article.

People do say the same thing about the US space program - I think they are wrong, given how relatively small NASA's budget is, how much money we spend on other things and how important space is - but here there is that nasty undercurrent of racism and colonialism.

Complaining about NASA is really just anti-science/anti-intellectual concern trolling.

Me too. I've really been out of the loop (moving house/on holiday) recently but I'm actually shocked and irritated that I didn't see this on FB or anywhere at all.

Very good points raised here. Why is the whole thing centred though?

Hey, if they can do it, more power to 'em. We (the US) seem to have decided to sit back and let the scientifically ignorant drag us backwards.

NASA has a rover the size of a car on Mars right now and is looking at sending another in less than a decade...?

Well, that shows how much I pay attention.

Curiosity landed in 2012 and has been doing amazing work (and just went in reverse for the first time recently). It's worth reading up on because the way they landed it was pretty interesting and really spectacular.

I'd love for India to make it to Mars. I'd love it even MORE for them to be the first non US country to have a successful landing mission. Especially at the price point in which they were able to launch at. A rising tide lifts all boats and I would love to see more space science taking place.
