That was my first thought too. Anyone who is so offended by reality that they will reject it out of hand because it doesn't fit with their inflated self-image is not someone I want wielding political power.
If any politician in my country came out with the earth being 8000 years old or something of that sort, I can't imagine the ridicule they would face. It's just surreal that something like that isn't a fringe view in the US.
I think people who don't believe in science should be disqualified from taking advantage of science and technology beyond what was available prior to the Industrial Revolution.
