I expect that what no one says but is thinking is "If we don't feed and take care of them, they will starve to death, thus going away for good." but politicians don't want to lose votes, so they don't say what they're really thinking.
Yup, an easy way to get rid of "freeloaders," conveniently forgetting that these are people who need help (government and charity) the most. It takes courage to stand in line waiting for a free meal, advertising yourself as hungry and in need.
So if it's such a burden or whatever to look at homeless people starving on the street, why don't we...I don't know, improve the system so that people aren't forced in homelessness?

Probably because that would take actual effort and cost money, so it's much easier to shove them anywhere where they can't be seen and be thus ignored by the comfortably-off.
