This article is spot-the-fuck-on. Working with low-income people in the city and my parents being life-long NYC public school educators, it just fucking disgusts me what he's done to this city. I thought that this best described everything I hate so much about Bloomberg:

"If Manhattan were an independent nation, its income inequality would rank with South Africa's and Namibia's."

That. That right there. Sometimes I feel like I want to vomit when I walk around the village now and see how we've just imported these rich people from all over the nation and the world and it's completely changed the character of the city. I used to have a feeling of acceptance and non-judgement when I walked around the village, I used to feel like I was in this magical place...now it's just...it's just rich-kid hell, I might as well be living in Greenwich, CT, yet in some ways I prefer Greenwich because at least it's the "old money" types who don't feel the need to always be super obnoxious and disdainful of others. I mean, I feel like the city has become mean-spirited in a way that it didn't used to be. Sure we had a reputation for being "brash" and "rude," but that's just because we're blunt and in a rush...this is different. This is a snotty, "mean-girl" type spirit that's pervaded the city, the type of spirit I associate with suburban high school kids, not the beautiful, diverse, eclectic city that I grew up in. In short, Bloomberg fucking sucks. I hope things become better with De Blasio.
