She's not a willing participant and it's not so much from the same angle that her detractors in Pakistan are trying to spin it. But in fact, her voice and narrative HAS basically been co-opted by the West.

Yousafzai has a completely unrelated, valid soapbox/motivation behind her emergence as a public figure/hero/survivor of human rights abuse, and Westerners are TRYING to turn her into their stooge because of our own sheer opportunistic shittiness.

For the last 3 or 4 days Ive heard/read some variation of:

(a) "See, we DID bomb That Place into freedom!"

or

(b) See, whiny bitchy Western feminists? THOSE women have REAL problems and adversities; stop whining about being called a whore/slut/bitch and shoot us a complaint when you get shot in the head."

And that's coming from Westerners.
Primarily Western men, of course.

But at least it's not surprising that, whether we're talking about the reactions in Pakistan or Canada/U.S./Europe, as usual, the common denominator for this infuriating disruption of logic somehow always involves penises.

From whom? I definitely didn't see either of those sentiments from Jon Stewart.

In general (laymen) I meant, not the established media. (Think Facebook posts, newspaper comment sections, discussion forums, or water-cooler discussions at work.)
