Do you think anyone decent has a chance of replacing him, though?

I have hope. I live on hope. Texas gave us Ann Richards once, and I hope that we get someone similar again soon.

my first thought on reading who should replace him involved time travel and Ann Richards :)

People are trying to convince Wendy Davis to run. She has the momentum at the moment. GOP will run Tx atty general Greg Abbott who is pretty shitty himself.

I'd love that, but I remember that she was a significant number of points below Rick, so hopefully no one likes her theoretical opponent.

Ann Richards polled low when she ran at the beginning too!

Yeah, but unfortunately, what turned that around was Clayton Williams fucking up royally, not anything Ann Richards did herself. :-/

That would be fabulous!

Wendy Davis, that is. Not Greg Abbott. fuck him.

Meh, they're tossing her name around because she's the recent hot Democrat but I've read stories that were written just after the filibuster that pointed out that she didn't have anything in place state-wide to even make a decent challenge.

Idk hopefully that will change if she decides to run, but still, it's only a little over a year to the election and the ball needs to start rolling immediately.

Yes, of course that's why they're throwing her name around, why would she have any infrastructure in place before that? It doesn't make sense to discount her and say "oh she didn't realize she was going to sky rocket, why didn't she prepare for that?" I'm not sure if you're on her email list but she is making a great play a'la national democrats sending out timely emails with information and seeking donations. It appears she is trying to build a war chest and gearing up for something, and she can't have "anything in place" (as you pointed out) if the money is not there to put it in place.
