Signed because I think that's awesome, but I don't think it will get enough signatures in order to actually be looked at (seriously wtf with changing the 10k(?) they originally needed to 100k, White House??). Though passing it around may make a point.

The reason it was changed is because the site got choked with joke petitions like this one, and they were trying to weed them out so that the serious ones would get the attention they deserved.

I get that, but in the meantime, serious petitions (like the one about drone pilots getting valor medals that you usually have to die to get) fall shy of the 100k mark because that's a shit ton of signatures.

Though it does seem, from looking at the site, they are responding to ones that don't reach the 100k mark (like the one for the recipe for beer? what?), so that's good at least.

This is why feminists on the internet get so much shit. I get the point, but it doesn't change that it's stupid.

Also, this is why the White House made it nearly impossible for smaller, but still important, causes (especially for Deaf and blind people) to get attention due to the signature minimum. If people had taken this seriously instead of 4000 petitions to END THE FED or build a fucking death star or stop white dudes from driving, maybe we could leverage our government to help us. But now we can't.

I have to agree. I mean, it's a funny petition and I'd have no problem if it were just floating around on the Internet somewhere to make a point, but it makes a mockery of the White House petition process. Legitimate and important causes are being overlooked because of freaking Star Wars petitions, for Christ's sake. Come on, people.
