OP comment - I should note that there are mixed reports floating around on the actual cost of the funeral & ceremony (£10m being one figure quoted, but the Government are not revealing any official figures just yet), and that it is not taxpayer funded in its entirety. Nevertheless, I personally find it way over the top and a final punch in the face to us plebs she loved so much.

I think it's really weird that the funeral is publicly-funded, even in part. It just rubs me as wrong for reasons I can't elucidate.

Of course, now I'll learn that presidential funerals in the US are publicly-funded. Quick googling gave me no indication either way.

U.S. Presidents get state funerals, yes. It's strange to me to think that a head of government wouldn't get one, actually.

The reaction to Thatcher's death by Westminster & The Media has been one long 2 fingered salute to the majority of people living in this country. The resulting anger is palpable.
