It's so bizarre to hear Rick Santorum (sorry, obligatory) talk about the country ~slouching toward godlessness~ when, as an actual atheist, I can't help but notice the surge in hyper-religiosity in the US in the past several years. My uterus has certainly noted the trend with some horror.

For real. I'm an atheist as well and I feel absolutely suffocated by the role religion is playing in our government.

Seriously, this. I'm an atheist, a woman and a lesbian-- I'm completely fucking terrified of this shit. And now I'm being forced to move right into the Bible Belt. To say I'm worried because of these people and this trend of religiosity would be an understatement.

I'm a Christian. And I embrace this "slouching toward godlessness" because what other people believe isn't my business and certainly isn't the government's business.

This Buddhist agrees. Separation of church and state exist for a reason, but these politicians act like that doesn't exist. My body and who I love are my business, not the government's.

Yeah, when politicians stop ending every goddamn speech with "god bless you and god bless the United States of America," then we can talk about "godlessness."
