Of all the problems affecting Puerto Rico, like I don't know, the insanely high crime rate, the drug economy being what is actually keeping the country from a total economic collapse, the ridiculous high energy prices, super low salaries, the destruction of our beaches, rampant corruption in our government, huge brain drain due to everyone with a diploma leaving the country, this is NOT what these jackasses should be protesting. SMH! No wonder my country is so fucked up.

this is probably way too intensive of a question for just an lj comment, but if you're inclined to answer, it'd be awesome:

why are the energy prices so high?

That's okay bb. They government owned power company is broke due to years of fat salaries, bonuses and mishandling of funds. The power bills right now are insane. My father owns 2 fast foods and is paying over $14k a month on power per store. That is 50% more than what he was paying 4 years ago! It's also a big reason why so many other businesses are going under. Ugh! I sincerely hate what's happened here and I hate the fact that I had to come back. I can't wait to move back to Miami.

My dad pays about 200 dollars per month on his house (with my siblings) and they don't have AC, dryer, and I pay about 50 bucks with all of those things here in the States. :|

It's crazy! When I lived in the states I never, ever paid over $125 in power for a 2b/2b and we had the AC/Heat on Auto all day and did laundry like 3 times a week!

My mother pays 300+ a month just herself in a house and she spends every day at work. I went back a few years back and didn't last 6 months.

Agree on the brain drain. Me and my two brothers left. Two engineers and a teacher.

I left in '07 but sadly had to come back. You don't know how much I want to get out of here. It's like I came back to another country.
