Oh yeah, these parents should totally teach their children to give up responsibilities because of shitty laws, that it's OK to adopt/rescue/whatever an animal and then give him or her up when it's inconvenient even though one has the means to make the responsible decision, and long distance parenting is totally not possible.

The children aren't being deprived of their father's physical presence because of their dog, they are being deprived of their father's physical presence because of job-related conditions.

Eta: And while I agree that parents have a greater responsibility to their human children, then to pets or frankly to nearly anyone else (there might be some exceptions), the fact is when one adopts/rescues/whatever a pet, one has the responsibility to care for that pet unless there is no other option. This family, because of their means, has more options than most families do. They're choosing to take responsibility for their dog, and their children (and don't tell me that their children would be OK leaving behind their dog) and chances are if MB is an involved father, he'll still be extremely involved. The only people at fault here, are the people who put this shitty law in place.
