Judge Finds California Boy Responsible in the Killing of His Neo-Nazi Father

Jan 14, 2013 23:38

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The young son of a neo-Nazi knew right from wrong when he shot and killed his father, and he is therefore responsible for second-degree murder, a judge ruled on Monday. Joseph Hall was 10 years old when he shot his sleeping father in the head in 2011. Now 12, he could be held in state custody until age 23 ( Read more... )

So an adult Neo Nazi is dead, and a kid Neo Nazi is soon to be locked away for a long, long time. I'm having trouble being upset with this situation tbh.

Maybe be sad because the kid was raised to be a Nazi, to be beaten, and generally was never given a chance in hell?

Do we try to rehabilitate him? Set him loose in a few years and hope that he abandoned daddy's doctrine of eradicating minorities from the face of the planet?

What are the options? The kid is already messed beyond belief. Practically brain washed. Maybe I can't find it in me to feel sympathy for him because I feel that he is already Daddy 2.0.

This child is ten years old and we as a society owe it to him to fix up the fucked up life he had to suffer under his father. So yes, we try to rehabilitate him. He will more than likely need therapy and medication for the rest of his life. He will need loving people in his life to help him grow into a better person because, strangely enough, most people aren't the same people when they were ten. He needs help and he needs compassion if he's going to change.

And what options are you going to propose? Lock him up for life, since you're so sure that he's going to be a hardcore Neo-Nazi for life? Y'know, basically assure that this kid has no chance to change, just like he had no chance of a happy childhood.

Your use of "daddy" and casual dismissal of a child who has been brutalized unnerves me.

A ten year old child?

I get it, white people suck, these hate groups are terrible and need to be stopped. But to view the children in the same light is dehumanizing. And you've become no better than any hate group.

Treat this child as someone from an abusive situation and give him a chance, maybe he will reform, heal.

Toss this kid into the prison system? Neo nazi guaranteed for life, because he's been shown no better.

I'm now on par with racists because I can't feel bad for a kid and his father who want me and my family and other people who look like me dead? No, try again.

I wouldn't say you're "on par" with them, but condemning a 12 year old kid because of how his racist asshole father raised him is a pretty shitty thing to do, yeah.

Yes, you're right. Imprison the kid. It's for the greater good. He needs to be punished along with the rest of his kind. Because, you know, making kids pay for their parents' wrong doing is how justice is done.

No, you are much better than that.

I can't think of a better way of making sure he's a white supremacist for life than putting him in prison where he'd almost certainly have to align with a white supremacist gang to stay alive.

It's guaranteed to happen. Like lickety_split is saying further down, they might put him in an adult prison because of lack of prison funds and that politicians don't want their record tarnished by letting a growing neo-nazi go.

I knew someone who did prison time. He ended up with one of the Aryan brotherhood types as a cell mate. It was uncomfortable for him because they do kind of pressure you into joining. With this kid? Send him to prison and the Aryan brotherhood will be on him without hesitation.

It's very sad.

Any kid deserves a better chance. No matter their background. I can see this as problematic because children of Color who are involved with crimes of violence normally don't get this kind of attention and consideration, so I can see some viewpoints on that issue.

I think we should put all children first, and think what kind of future we are giving them.

A skinhead I knew as a teen had a brother in San Quentin. Maybe these facts are unrelated but I wonder.

Ideally, this boy would go live somewhere completely different so he could experience all his father's lies at a gut level. But we know how likely that is. :/

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a connection. Skinheads tend to be in and out of jail a lot. From the ones I've known, it seems to be a family habit.

Sad and true :(

I apologize.

I should have said we've all become on par with inhumane practices if our children are to individually or collectively pay for the trangressions of thier ancestors against humanity.

It's just not sympathy for a white kid here, it's the matter of keeping that kid from continuing a horrible legacy and what should be done to keep him from committing more crimes in the future and raise him to respect others.
