I got home last night for winter break, and I found out tonight that my little brother's 8th grade American history class is watching the Ten Commandments. I made a big fuss about it, and my mom sent in an e-mail to the teacher asking her to explain why she thinks the movie is appropriate. But now my little brother seems pretty stressed about it. I feel kind of bad. :\
I also ended up blocking someone on my facebook feed who kept posting things like, "BREAKING NEWS: Over 100 children were killed in Chicago between March of 2011 and March of 2012." "BREAKING NEWS: 70 children have been killed by drone strikes under the Obama administration."
I understand his point, but I don't know. ): It seemed inappropriate. Sometimes I feel like the only proper immediate response to events like those today is silence.
There have been times I have wanted to storm in to school and throw a fit, but my kids asked my not to. One daughter's class had a nativity play as part of the winter party (we used to go out of out way to avoid the word "Christmas") where a Jewish boy was Joseph. This is a public school.
