Ugh. Is Canada's stance based on kissing up to the US, wanna-be Republicans, or Harper being an evangelical? All of the above?

Some days, I want to see a skill-testing question given before people vote...

Canada's stance is actually well based in history. We've not supported Israel with money or weapons very much, but we're not necessarily able to. Canada has always been supportive of Israel though, and at some point, Canada's support used to mean something to the world. Not so anymore.

Harper has been more blatant about it and totally unsupportive of Palestine.

But this one's not something we can act all smug about as if we're only doing it because we think Harper wants to snuggle up to the US boarder and pretend.

Also, side note that has little bearing on anything. It makes me uncomfortable hearing lefty folks saying we need a 'skill testing question' before voting so that presumably fewer people would be able to cast conservative ballots. That seems like the kind of attitude towards democracy we accuse the other side of and thus to be avoided.

Smug and making you uncomfortable! Sorry about that. I don't voice my frustration w/ uninformed voters often but I think it's something people across the spectrum feel. It's not admirable, no.
