Jewish Woman Brutally Murdered in Iran

Nov 29, 2012 20:54

A Jewish woman was murdered by Muslim extremists in the Iranian city of Esfahan, the Israeli media is reporting. The victim was 56, and it appears the reason for the murder is an ongoing effort to take over the family home by an adjacent mosque.

Posts on say, Syria, don't generate a lot of comments.

Hell, even posts on events that take place in Australia, or New Zealand countries which are closer culturally to the United States don't get as much comments.

Even on red-button topics which do end up with more comments, like racism, or sexism etc.

I often wonder what would be the result of grabbing a story from a few years ago on some hot-button topic tragedy that happened in a small-town america and cut and paste it so it's in small-town anywhere else in the world, exact same event and everything and compare the comment numbers. Unless someone says something controversial than I'm sure the numbers would be way different.

And, I distinctly recall someone from years ago in this community saying they never click on news articles outside of America because they find it difficult to identify with foreign people. That person no longer posts, but it always stuck in my head and so it does make me wonder how typical that opinion is. Not that anyone would ever admit to it, and...well, anyone who does wouldn't say anything here because they wouldn't be reading this post.
