Most parents see their kids as beautiful because they're kids and they're their kids. Even if your kid doesn't look like Baby Gap model material, you'd still find beauty in the fact that they're your child. And beauty isn't always based on appearance anyway.

My parents yelled at me for being a teenager who had acne. Oh, and for not being sufficiently upset about having acne. To be honest, I don't particularly want them to call me beautiful, but it would at least be better than implicitly calling me ugly.
