Actually...Poor People Aren't Taken Care Of

Oct 26, 2012 14:55

What's up folks! I don't know if you guys had heard about a campaign called "Actually..." where celebs call shenanigans on some of the B.S. that's been coming out of the Romney campaign. Well, Daily Show creator Lizz Winstead and I came up with the idea + it was produced by the folks who brought you The Great Schlep and Wake the EFF Up! Its been ( Read more... )

This has been quiet an emotional day for me. I got to meet Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin, my state's senators. Stabenow talked about her father's illness when she was a teen and the financial need-based scholarships she got which were the only reason she could go to college. People she never met cared enough to make sure horrible circumstances didn't keep her from fulfilling her dream of college, and she wants to make sure that those opportunities are there for others. Now compare that to senator Ryan who was helped personally by the government after his father died when Ryan was a teen. I would have a tiny amount of respect for truth telling if the Republican party just changed their slogan to "We got ours, so fuck you ( ... )

Yes, this is a public school. The one I went to in fact, and the one that my youngest will NOT be going to.

Because this is a city so steeped in its privilege that they see nothing wrong. Oh, I forgot to mention that she brags that she did blackface for her "violate a social norm" project.

I went up against the school last year after my daughter's friend was injured twice in bullying incidents and NOTHING HAPPENED to the bullies. The friend was yelled at for not reporting further incidents after her first reports led nowhere.

Well, doing blackface definitely violates a social norm. ... Guess we should be glad she didn't choose to go beat up a kid with Down's Syndrome for her project. No point in doing something like walking down the left side of the sidewalk instead of the right or wearing your clothing backward when you can do something that causes harm, amirite?

I think it would be a good idea for your daughter's friend to start documenting each incident of bullying, including reporting each incident to the school, especially if she or he is getting physically injured. Just in case taking legal action ends up being the best option.

Unfortunately her parents don't care and she is still a minor, making this even more frustrating.

...her parents don't care...

D: D: D:

I started to reply that I can not believe a parent wouldn't care, then I realized there are plenty of parents who wouldn't. Not everyone is cut out to be a parent and there are a lot of people who simply shouldn't be parents.
