Romney's Big Bird comments spark response from the bird himself Uh oh.
In Wednesday night's first presidential debate, Republican candidate Mitt Romney upset an unlikely...person?
"I'm sorry, Jim. I'm going to the stop the subsidy to PBS. I like Big Bird. I like you," Romney said.
Debate moderator Jim Lehrer works for PBS.
But, while Mitt may like Big Bird, the Bird doesn't like him - and he quickly expressed his feelings via Twitter.
Within an hour of setting up the Twitter handle
@BigBirdRomney, the Sesame Street icon had nearly 6,000 followers. Just before midnight he had more than 7,300.
Through the debate Big Bird expressed anger, concern and even saddness that the Republican presidential candidate wanted to put him, and his friends from the Street, out of work. And he wasn't shy about sharing his endorsement for president.
"If you don't vote Obama, Mitt Romney is going to be eating me by the end of November."
However, in a cryptic Twitpic, the Bird seemed to suggest he and Ann Romney had a "thing" at one point - but he didn't elaborate.
Check out some of his most retweeted and favorited quips:
@

Big Bird Takes To Twitter And Responds To Mitt RomneyThe presidential candidate asserted he would cut funding for PBS, the home of Sesame Street. It's safe to say that Big Bird was not happy.
Prior to the debate, Mitt Romney is all like
Some of these things, like those endowment efforts and PBS I very much appreciate and like what they do in many cases but I just think they have to stand on their own rather than receiving money borrowed from other countries, as our government does on their behalf.
Which he
echoed live on TV.

imwithkanye Romney vs. Big Bird: Internet Defends Scorned Muppet Don’t mess with Big Bird, Mitt Romney. That’s the message the Internet sent Wednesday night when the GOP presidential candidate confirmed that he “loves Big Bird,” but would cut subsidies for PBS.
The zing had amateur Photoshoppers working in overdrive to defend the beloved Sesame Street character.
The comment also generated 17,000 tweets per minute for “Big Bird” and 10,000 tweets per minute for “PBS,” according to
