4-year-old boy and his father climb Mt Fuji, unfurl "Diaoyu Islands belong to China" banner China News
reports (link in Chinese) on a father and son nationalist duo from Nanjing, who submitted Mt Fuji over the holiday weekend and unfurled a banner reading "Diaoyu Islands belong to China!" at the top.
Update #1: It seems like this father is no stranger to exploiting his offspring for attention, he made
headlines (link in English) in February when he recorded his son running without clothing in the snow as part of his "Eagle Dad" training scheme.
Update #2: Apparently Eagle Dad was lucky to make it off the mountain, having failed to research Mt Fuji whatsoever before he dragged his family towards the summit. He told China News that he expected there to be refreshment stands on the way and went woefully unprepared, leaving himself and his family at risk of altitude sickness and dehydration. The sad wannabe "conquerors" of Mt Fuji were eventually rescued by a Japanese first aid officer who gave them water and medical treatment.

Pictures at
the source for now (at work, so I can't re-up the pics elsewhere), and OMG, that poor child. I can not even believe the father didn't even look up anything about climbing Mt. Fuji before dragging a four-year-old child up there for his attention-seeking stunt. One of the signs the kid is holding says "I climbed Mt. Fuji! Boys are strong! China is strong!" and the other one is about Senkaku/Diaoyu.
Make all the political statements you want, but don't drag your small child into a potentially life-threatening situation to do it.
