The only good government programs are the ones that benefit me. And only me-- if other people rely on the same programs, they're just lazy.

I have a friend like this. On Medicaid and WIC, and a conservative Republican who thinks her problems are all Obama's fault.

That makes me so angry! My mom and I have always had just enough money to get by but she lost her job in May and we just started getting food stamps a couple of months ago, I now also have to rely on the school to feed me two meals a day. I always feel like shit about it but I can't do anything else.

meh. she didn't say anything different than what a lot of white folks who collect benefits say and think (I, a good white person, deserve this, those *other* people are just shiftless leeches).

But whatever she thinks, she doesn't deserve to be treated like crap.

My dad has the same thoughts. He either guilt-trips me for not looking for better employment, or insults my current job or tells me that I am one of the "few" that is allowed on foodstamps or on SSI. I hate his reasoning and his classist bullshit. Thank god I left his place.
