How the Outside World Views Sidney Crosby. From From the Rink.

It's a pretty interesting look at the Sidney Crosby Hype Machine. And the comments, shockingly, instead of being a wankfest, are some pretty amazingly well thought out debate. I think everyone who has an opinion on Sid good or bad needs to read it.

Seriously though, what I'm seeing now is that it's somehow "cool" to hate Sidney. Or to accuse people of only liking Crosby because it's "popular." "You're not a REAL hockey fan -- you're only a fan because you like Sidney." Bull fucking shit.

I'm a fan because they're the fucking Pittsburgh Penguins. I'd be a fan even if we sucked. Same as the Steelers -- we sucked this season, but I'm still a fan.

Besides, let's not forget that Sidney's not only supremely talented and hardworking, but he's also a genuinely nice guy. "Whiny" bullshit. Didn't they say Gretzky was the same way early in his career? (If you say Crosby IS whiny?)

O-FELCH-kin maybe a damned good player, but he's also a jackass. Please. Who's a better role-model to kids?

I got called a puck bunny a few weeks ago by a guy I was watching hockey with because I made an offhand comment about Sid being amazing. I turned and batted my eyelashes at him and cooed, 'Oh my god, his 57.8% faceoff percentage is like, the hottest thing ever!'. Dude shut up once he saw I knew what I was talking about.

And you've summed up my feeling exactly. Ovechkin is the mefirst kind of player that apparently thinks pouting like a 12 year old and shoving fans is acceptable behaviour, which is unacceptable to me. I used to enjoy watching him, but the longer he's in the league, the more I can't stand him or his attiude.

And I certainly know who my kids will be encouraged to look up too, and his initals won't be AO

Yeah, I don't want any kids of mine idolizing someone who decides it's cool to drive 200mph. Although I haven't seen him shove any fans -- most of the time he seems willing to sign autographs, from what I've seen. (I could be wrong, though)

And dude has a TRAMP STAMP, for crying out loud! A freaking tramp stamp? How many guys get tramp stamps? Dude!

I'm not a hockey expert, (nor a football one, for that matter), and I really, REALLY hate it when people accuse female fans of being "puck bunnies" and assuming that's the only reason they watch.

I like watching hockey and football because they're entertaining. I may not know EVERY term (and stats and math were never my strong suits anyways), but I don't think that makes me an airhead. And yeah, we have a very good looking team. So fucking what?

Why should a woman have to PROVE she's not a groupie before she's taken seriously? It's like accusing a female coworker of sleeping with her boss when she gets a promotion.

Grrrrr

Ovechkin taking issue with a fan filming him. This was after Team Russia lost to Team Canada. Apparently the woman is saying, 'don't break my camera, please don't break my camera' or something of the sort.

So, yeah, don't have a lot of respect for the guy right now.

And that's what kills me....girls shouldn't HAVE to be an expert to be taken seriously as fans. Bah.

Dammit, I can't listen on Safe Mode!!! (Oh, what I wouldn't GIVE for five minutes alone with the asshole who created the spyware/malware/virus that's fucking over my computer!) But I get the jist.

It stands to reason that he'd be in a piss-ass mood about being filmed, if this was RIGHT after he lost. So I'd probably say something like, "Would you just fuck off? I really, REALLY don't want to be followed around by a fucking camera right now!" He'd look like an ass, but then, he'd just be his normal self. (And even then, I'd excuse him for that, under the circumstances -- I'd be really pissy and rude myself)

But I'm not about to destroy someone's property. I'd also be smart enough to know that it would end up YouTube. (In fact, if I were that chick, I'd yell "Oh, this is SOOOOOOO going up on YouTube, asshat!!!" Then I'd run like hell.)

From everything I've read about it from people who speak/read Russian, the fan was apparently a woman who had come from Russia to watch her team at the Olympics.

It's one thing to be upset about a loss. It's another completely to change the trajectory of your path to intercept someone standing to the side of you who's obviously a fan of yours.

The thing that burns my ass is that if that was Crosby? He'd have been flayed alive by both the media AND fans who hate him. Ovechkin gets to give a flippant "it happened, I don't want to talk about it" answer and nobody says two shits to him.

Between this and the quotes by his coach and owner that basically amount to "dude is good but uncoachable", well. I'll take Sid and his RobotBoy act any day of the week. I prefer my athletes to be team players, not egotistical jackasses that can't control their tempers off the ice.

I completely agree about Ovechkin. Crosby's so much more humble and respectful about what he's able to do on the ice and never forgets to give credit where credit is due. But that's the difference with Ovechkin though. If he was a Penguin, I'd still hate the guy because of his cocky, "I'm so great, look at me jump on the boards every single time I score, aren't I just SO AWESOME, yes I know I am" attitude.

I would LOVE to go to a Pens/Caps game, front row seats, and when he jumps at the boards, just give him the finger. (I'm sure it happens all the time, but it sure would be fun)

Or make a sign with the picture in my sig. Gotta love Foamy
