High on Brie (aka Olympia review)

I was supposed to post this 2 weeks ago but LiveJournal was a bitch, so I gave up and forgot to try again (--)'

Here is my review for Muse's concert at the Olympia in Paris (Oct 2nd). As I'm gonna see the band again tomorrow (and again in Paris), I figured it was now or never for the review lol

Sorry for the mistakes I'm really tired at the moment :p

When I went to Paris, I wanted to throw myself completely into the concert. So I brought my Resistance flag, my Muse T-shirt and everything, but... the audience was like nothing I had ever seen for a Muse concert before. It was weird. Very disturbing. Mostly old people (by old people I mean 40 yo or so). Or older. So weird. And what was weirder and pissed me off from the start was that most of them hadn't even paid for their seats. They had been invited by their firms or were local celebrities. Also, there were couples with one of them really loving Muse and the other who was there just to please the first one. I mean, I get it, it's okay, but some of them spent their time texting or talking (I didn't even know it was possible to talk). SERIOUSLY GUYS YOU DON'T ATTEND A MUSE CONCERT TO TEXT WTF AND WHEN I THINK OF ALL THE PEOPLE WHO REALLY WANTED TO COME AND COULDN'T (okay, breathe, calm down...)

We waited in the street, but the concert was badly planned because they had to check your ID to let you in and they took a lot of time and some people were still outside when the show began :( I was lucky enough to enter in time but I couldn't even go to the loo because I was hearing the beginning of the Intro, so I rushed to my place.

The Intro was Telstar, by Matt's father's band the Tornados. The guy just behind me told his wife "This is a Muse B-side" and I was like, "okay, you didn't actually said that".

And then, they began to play Supremacy. This song is really brilliant on stage. The guitar solo is one of the best. But this is definitely a song for bigger venues. People in the crowd were very uptight, it was strange.

Also, I couldn't see Chris very well :'( And Holy Dom was always in a halo of light so I couldn't see him well either!

Then we had Hysteria. It's a classic song but a good one. Because of DAT BASS (remember, the bass I couldn't see -_-')

The audience really began to move and dance with Panic Station. Thumbs up to Maff Bellallamy for being such a disarticulated puppet on stage sometimes (see what I mean?)

Resistance was the next song, followed by Supermassive Black Hole. I would have prefered to have SBH just after Panic Station, because I believe these 2 songs would work perfectly together.

Then we had Animals. The pictures on the screens were really, really creepy. Kirky did that, right?

Again, the guitar solo was great. When the band began to play Time Is Running Out, the crowd woke up.

AT LAST. 7 songs to cheer up. That's a LOT.

I was almost feeling ashamed:
- because the band always says that French fans are the best and the audience was so uptight
- because I felt like I was the only one who was screaming and singing and people were looking at me like "okay stop now!"

So, Time Is Running Out was great. Every now and then, Matt and Chris went closer to Dom and discussed some things. I don't know what they were talking about, but I found it cute.

Then we had Save Me. I have no picture for this one because I couldn't see Chris :'(
Matt went behind Dom's drum kit and it was lovely to see them play like this.

The following song was Madness, and then Uprising. For the first time with this song, I recognized the French crowd I appreciate so much. Uprising was one of the highlights of this concert.

And also, "They will not fucking contwol us!"

Oh and look I saw Chris lol

And our favourite DILF giving away his plectrum :)

Follow Me was the next song. I can't say I loved this song when I heard it for the first time, but the live version is so much better than the studio version. And knowing Matt was singing for Baby Bells *awwwwww*

And the lovely and best surprise was Bliss. I had never seen Bliss on stage. I worship that song. And I was waiting for DAT FALSETTO. And we had it! *happy dance forever*

EVERYTHING IS MUSE AND NOTHING HURTS

And the guy just behind me (always the same) told his wife "oh it's a new song!" *facepalm fowever*

Then Matt said something very sweet about his father playing at the Olympia for 2 weeks back in the 60's just before the band played Man With a Harmonica and Knights of Cydonia. This song works so well on stage, they had to play it.

After KOC the band left the stage and then came back for the Encore. We had Stockholm Syndrome (yeah!) and then Starlight, before Matt came to the piano.

And yes they're gonna wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin!

SURVIVAL!

That song is absolutely amazing on stage, that guitar, that bass... Best way to end the show. I thought nothing could top KOC, but Survival did.

About this concert: I loved it because it's Muse, and I'm never disappointed when it comes to Muse. BUT the audience was so uptight, it was a weird concert. I was very closed to the stage and could see the boys very well, I'm not sure I'll see them so well tomorrow. And we had Bliss. So overall, it was a good night.

BUT the venue was too small for the band. We didn't have all the spectacular stuff we'll certainly have tomorrow. Just a few lights, but nothing that takes your breathe away. And some people really pissed me off. Like, the ones who left before the end of the show (and we couldn't see the stage when they left) because they wanted to be home sooner. Right in the middle of Survival! I know it's silly, but I wanted to see the exact moment when Matt goes from the piano to the guitar and I couldn't see it because people were like "sorry, could you step back, we're leaving now!" And also the ones who were chatting of texting or sighing and looking at their watches all the time.

That's all folks ^^

Dom's arse thanks you for your time ^^
