Ah, but wait...
A Merlin movie! A Merlin movie! No. Wait. It’s not a movie based on BBC’s Merlin? Ah phooey. The show was great fun with an epic bromance at it’s core so the thought of new actors playing Merlin and Arthur on the big screen doesn’t excite me.
But the fact that Warner Brothers just closed a deal with Game of Thrones writer Dave Hill and Hanna scribe David Farr might just do it!
With a film budget and the writing of some of the best fantasy and action properties in recent years, this could turn out to be quite good. Something to think about is what demographic the film would be targeting; the younger fan-base of the BBC show or the much more adult demo of HBO’s series?
With the magic and medieval setting, it makes a lot of sense to have someone like Hill on the project. I also really enjoyed the action in Hanna and there’s also plenty of that in both shows so Farr is a perfect compliment.
Someone might want to check if Colin Morgan’s available? He’s finishing up a run as Ariel in The Tempest at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and no one knows of his next projects quite yet. Just saying!
