Two larger-than-life ageless wonders are teaming up. Challenge their combined stamina - and starpower - at your own peril.
Superhero-concept germinator Stan Lee, 88, and Austro-American Terminator Arnold Schwarzenegger, 63 [right], are joining forces to create a comic book and develop a TV show, according to
Entertainment Weekly, which broke the news Wednesday by way of announcing its new cover. And the central character for the twin projects will be...
“The Governator,” a crimefighting comic alter-ego for the Mr. Universe turned Mr. Hollywood turned Mr. “California.” Lee reportedly will adapt elements - from family to politics - from the former Guv’s real life.
“Working with Arnold Schwarzenegger,” Lee tells Comic Riffs, “is the most fun I’ve had in a long time!”
For Schwarzenegger, who left the governor’s mansion in Sacramento last year, the new venture marks a full-scale attempt to jump-start his Hollywood career, which of course has featured such blockbusters as the “Terminator” films and “Total Recall” (which is being remade for a planned 2012 release).
“I’ll be back,” eh?
Apparently, somewhere between Schwarzenegger’s real and reel lives, he wasn’t kidding.
“When I ran for governor back in 2003 and I started hearing people talking about ‘the Governator,’ I thought the word was so cool,” Schwarzenegger tells EW, tidily swatting away the fact some skeptics were using it derisively. “The word ‘Governator’ combined two worlds: the world of politics and the movie world. And [the comic project] brings everything together.”
The comic book is due out next year; no word yet on a schedule for the development of the TV show.
