I truly enjoyed it. I went to the cinema expecting something bad (in Italy we would say a "truzzata"... I don't know the equivalent in english) with lot of action that will ruin one of my favorite comic books. My only hope was Kenneth Branagh; I really love him as a director. I was happily surprised that the movie not only didn't ruin anything, but that I loved it. The acting was superb (for obvious reason I loved Tom Hiddleston as Loki) the story was able to stand on his own and Kenneth really managed to make together a movie with so many different settings that said truly something about his skills.
I have two big complaints however: 1) I'm completely agree with Ingu_x when she says: "Lack of character development, especially when it came to Loki and Thor's relationship, I had no idea what their history/backstory/dynamics were like. If we had known more about Loki's experiences/state of mind before the events of the movie his Freudian excuse would've had much more of an impact." I hadn't really noticed it until she pointed this out. I think that this is especially true for the people who don't know the comic book (like my friends that after the credits kept asking me questions about it) 2) The entire movie feels like a big prequel.... I know that with the Avenger movie coming out next year it's sort of natural, but I think that some parts were to rushed: especially Thor development (he had take a really quick lesson in humility.. too quick... I'm wondering if it will stick)
ooooh, I never really thought about it that way, but now that you've pointed it out, the whole purpose of Thor's rapid redemption did seem like a giant set-up for the Avengers. Here's to hoping the second movie would be a lot better. x)
I'm glad you agree with me on the character development thing, the thing with the movie is that a lot of the backstory and even characterisation were slightly modified to suit the medium. I didn't feel like it was fair to judge the characters the same way I would judge the ones from the comic who had 30+ years of history and retcons. I treated the entire thing like an AU but didn't get nearly as much background as I'd have liked. xD
I just wish it was longer, so there'd have been more time for character development as a whole. =(
