Everybody wants a slice of the Marvel superhero pie...
After the success of their latest coming book property, X-Men: First Class, 20th Century Fox is moving forward with their next superhero film by hiring Brad Caleb Kane to pen it's script.
The first Daredevil, and it's spin-off film Elektra were not well received by many fans or critics and recent rumbling pegged the properties film rights reverting over to Marvel Studios. The story of Daredevil follows New York City lawyer Matt Murdock who, due to a crippling injury as a child, lost his eye sight but gained superhuman senses of touch, scent and hearing; which help him patrol the streets of Hell's Kitchen bringing justice to criminals. Chernin Entertainment will produce the film under the 20th Century Fox banner.
David Slade (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, 30 Days of Night) has been brought on board to relaunch the Daredevil film series. The untitled film will be a continuation of the superhero's story but will not contain material from the Ben Affleck-toplined version released by Fox in 2003. Sources have said that the new story line will be an adaptation of the critically acclaimed Frank Miller-written and David Mazzucchelli-illustrated Born Again comic series, which saw the Kingpin of Crime learn the identity of the superhero and begin to systematically destroy his life.
Now it's been revealed that Brad Caleb Kane, whose most notable credit is as writer-producer on popular Fox sci-fi TV series Fringe, will be penning the Daredevil script. Sources say that "Kane is a Daredevil fan, and his energy and passion for the material helped him nab the job." Fox has yet to reveal a production start or tentative theatrical release date for the film.
