I S L A N D ,
by Aldous Huxley
Since I'm not sure I'm going to be around at ten tonight to close the polls, I'm going to go ahead and assume that, with 13 votes and 69 participants total, Island will be our book of the month for June. Watership Down was a close second. I think we'll have polls every month since this one had such a big response and the vote was so close.
Now we're going to need two discussion leaders for Island. We will have three posts total covering the book:
- an open discussion for while you're still in progress with the book, where the discussion leader and other members can submit specific questions about the book for discussion in the finished thread
- a finished discussion for after completion of the book
- a finished discussion for discussing specific things about the book and how these compare to LOST: think theme, symbolism, etc.
We also need to set up a schedule for reading. I'm thinking we go for three weeks. Is that too short or long for anyone? In between Island and the next book we will read a short story or two for discussion, I'll make a post for suggestions as we near the end of our Island adventure.
Island can also be found online
here.
If you didn't see before, we will be doing a Ulysses summer book club as well. I need someone, preferably someone who has already read it, to lead discussion on this book.
I'll announce our new mod tomorrow morning and wait and see if we get any more applications before the deadline tonight. Thanks so much to
___greenribbon and
hashishinahooka and everyone else in the open suggestions thread for their help.
Happy reading!
