Some thoughts on the final minutes of the series. SPOILERS
So I've been saying it around the comm, but when watching the church scene, I really don't know if I like the idea of them simply moving on to the after life.
I mean, after watching the finale again and listening to podcasts and just letting it sink in, I'm okay with the flashsideways being limbo/pergatory.....well, okay. I'm still kind of pissed. I really thought it all would play a part in getting rid of the MIB and saving the island, but I do understand and respect their decision for going the direction they did. It was poetic, if not a little Shyamalanian (tee hee).
However...the idea of them just kind of flying off to heaven kind of makes me feel a little sad. And confused (how do people get shot and die in limbo?). It just feels so final, which I'm not quite ready to accept. Plus what do they do in the afterlife? Chill in the clouds?
I guess that's where people's different spiritual beliefs come in. When the bright light hits them in that church, where do you think they're going? Heaven? Hell? Fringe? Vulcan?
Personally I like to believe that they're being reborn. That their limbo lives was kind of a test run of what they're second lives (true second lives) will be, but they had to get over some of their shit first and find closure. Once they did and they were ready, they were reborn and will eventually come to lead their LA Flashsideways lives (except with issues resolved or at least with some sense of peace about them) though they won't remember anything of their previous island lives.
But that's okay because fate will bring them back together anyway, as friends, lovers, etc. Plus it also doesn't mean that they'll be reborn in like the year 50000000 or something because time isn't linear for them anymore (so says Princess Faraday) so...I dunno, maybe I'm just trying to find a plausible way to get them into an AU proper situation like NuTrek because again, I just don't want to think of them as dead and ~moved on~
But yeah, where do you think they went?
