So we’ve had a lot of questions answered this season (origin of Richard and The Black Rock, The Whispers) but there’s at least one big mystery that has developed since The Incident Part 1 last season. Of the lingering questions/mysteries that still remain besides the obvious (who is that boy Flocke, et. al. have seen?) if I had to choose just one thing that got answered by the end I would want to know as much as possible about The Man In Black: What is his name? Who is his mother? What is the origin of him becoming the smoke monster and how can he appear as dead people? And not just how? More specifically when?
That last one has added some additional mysteries/questions. MIB revealed to Jack in The Candidate that he appeared to him as Christian Shepard. BUT he only admitted to doing so the one time Jack saw him in S1 looking for water. Christian has appeared many times to other people (Hurley, Claire, Michael and Ben & Sun last season). So was that MIB every time? There is a big gaping hole though upon review. For one, he appeared off island during one of Jack’s flash forwards and MIB cannot go off island. Also, when he appeared to Ben & Sun last season, the real John Locke was already dead and in that timeline Ben & Sun were in MIB should’ve already taken the form of Locke. Also in that same timeline Ben had confronted the smoke monster in the temple per Locke - who we now know was MIB and the smoke monster turned into Alex but per Illana, MIB could not have done so. He was already in Locke’s form and could no longer change to someone else. So what’s the deal? These questions just seem like more than minor continuity blunders and I am hoping we get some reasonable explanation and greater detail about MIB during the next 4 episodes.
So what do you all think? Theories? Guesses?
Do you hope these questions get answered? Do you care more about the Losties ending than MIB and just hope he is destroyed?
