Debate: Kate's motives - was Claire right to attack her?
I was rewatching S05E11 "Whatever Happened Happened" and I started wondering something...
Kate's motives for coming back to the island was to bring Claire back so she could be with Aaron. That's why when Claire almost kills Kate in S06E08, many people agree that she was way off base (even though most of us were cheering for Claire to slit that bitches throat k DAMN IT FLOCKE. Ur supposed to be one of the good guys damn it). After all, Kate took Aaron because Claire was gone. That's what Flocke said after he showed Claire his pimp hand.
Wait, why did Claire leave in the first place? I'm confused about that. Oh yeah Jack's Spirit!Daddy (Avatar for the Island? Flocke's crazy mom in gender-swap?).
But then in S05E11, Sawyer's baby-mama Cassidy tells "Auntie Kate" (creepy?) that the real reason she took Aaron was to mend her broken heart after Sawyer jumped off the helicopter. Kate didn't exactly deny it.
So if Kate's reasons for taking Aaron were more selfish than selfless, does it mean that Claire has a basis for wanting to hurt Kate (that is if she still even wants to - she seems to be totally cool with it now after that anticlimactic teary-eyed apology to Kate)? Kate did seem to really want to bring Claire back to Aaron, but wasn't that only because she almost lost him in the supermarket? So...could you say that her goal was spurred on by her own feelings of being overwhelmed by the task of taking care of Aaron? It's possible that if Kate didn't have those problems with Aaron, Kate might have just went on raising him. Or would she?
That's not even bringing Sawyer into the mix. If part of her reason for coming back was to see Sawyer again (she obviously missed him if what Cassidy said was right and he was a small part of the reason for her and Jack's break up) then if Sawyer had left the island with them, would Claire have been a good enough reason for Kate to come back (from Kate's point of view)?
I guess what I'm asking is - Claire: right or wrong for trying to murder Kate?
Bonus question: Do you buy Claire's apology?
