I think the mirrors were just Jacob's way of checking in on his prospects. Someone in another forum suggested that the dial was getting full so perhaps the game going on between Jacob and his nemesis is coming to a close therefore no more new recruits would be making their way to the island thus making the lighthouse and it's mirrors obsolete at this point.
That would explain why he wasn't upset when a rage filled Jack broke them.

Though at first I thought the game or whatever it is would be endless and now I'm thinking this is really the end.

Did the numbers on the cave ceiling go up higher than 360? jw and am too lazy to go on Lostpedia because I will never leave.

I don't remember seeing anything higher than 360. But I haven't paid that much attention to the other numbers either, so....

I think the highest number they had was 313 or something similar.
