If Mako is clearly gearing up to be Korra's main love interest, why is it so hard to root for them to get together? And what can be done to make cheering him on easier?
Oddly enough, the only time he consistently displayed positive emotions was when he first started dating Asami. He was totally smitten and smiling like an idiot for most of that episode. It was also the last episode that I actually kind of liked the character
( ... )
Honestly, my main problem is that Asami and Bolin get a raw deal at the end of this season, while Mako will get his TRU WUV, even though he doesn't particularly deserve that sort of happiness.
Mako should end up alone, mend his relationship with the girls and hook up again with someone only when he matures. But that will never happen.
Unnnnnnnless, Korra rejects him towards the end. If there were possible rewrites of the finale, and the finale being where he fully realizes he wants to be with Korra after breaking it off with Asami (or her breaking it off with him), it'd be great to see Korra be all "LOL NOPE!" and play a bit hard to get until he gets his shit together.
Edit: Or her just being generally not interested until he proves he grew up some.
Unfortunately, given how Korra has neither been bothered by or rejected Mako's behavior, I doubt it. The best bet is Asami and Bolin both calling them out in a fit of righteous, hurt anger and making them feel at least a little bit ashamed.
aw, poor guy. :p i don't hate him, i'm discovering--i'm just incredibly disappointed with his development, as i am with most of the characters. he gets the brunt of it because he's being shoehorned into the love interest role.
Mako was described to me by my friend today as an "Emo gangster jock with a binky scarf"
LOL4EVER
I ship Makorra for everything it could have been and everything that I would like it to be, but as previously stated, Mako's character development is lacking and it just doesn't feel like we have a concrete understanding of who he is, his moods, or his motivations. outside of being an occasional jerk-bender and willing to go to extremes for lurve.
