i'm a big makorra shipper and tbh i think the only reason i don't ship mako/asami is because we haven't really had a good, proper scene with asami in which she's not with mako? so... she's kind of been built up from the beginning to be a love interest, which is kind of irking when i want to get to know her for who she is instead of in relation to other people (her father's daughter, mako's gf, etc). other than that i mean she seems nice but it's hard for me to ship them bc i'm like "what's going on who are you"
but yeah i mean if we just had some good legitimate character-building scenes with her then i'd love to ship her with anybody, she seems really lovely
makorra's still my favorite pairing so far but i can accept that it'll be on hold for a while, lol
I mean, we've only seen her in one episode. There is plenty of time for character building. Though I don't know if we'll ever see her off just on her own doing her own thing (unless she is an equalist spy), I am willing to bet we will get her and Korra spending time together on their own (probably reluctantly on Korra's side) at some point soon, though.
that's what I'm crossing my fingers for, haha. right now I'm just in a holding point bc I really want to like her but I'm just so unsure of who she is and what she's doing in the narrative. but yeah, I'm sure Bryke will deliver; atm I'm just kind of confused, but that'll probably change soon. it's mainly just because everything's going so fast and I'm a little startled, but it is only 12 episodes to squeeze in this huge storyline, so...
yeah, the pace is way different and I think that is throwing people off.
I feel like Makorra is def endgame, but I kind of hope it is Asami that breaks it off with Mako, because I feel like Mako leaving her to be with Korra would kind of sour Makorra for me. and in my mind, by then Asami and Korra are good friends and Asami kind of nudges Korra toward him and everyone is cool with the relationship.
oh no you're totally right, I want her to desperately break off and be her own character as I said in this comment. That's why she's suspicious to me lol, because we know literally nothing about her other than what we know from what she's told Mako.
I mainly just want her and Korra to interact because... well, Korra's the main character - The Legend of Korra after all - and I'm really curious what role Asami will play in Korra's story. she can't just be "the other woman in the way of Korra's love interest" (because honestly I'd be really disappointed in Bryke if that happened). I mostly just want more of Asami as Asami and not Asami as a girlfriend/daughter, haha. makes me kind of suspicious atm, like we're not getting information from her because it's some big secret to be revealed... idk.
ngl though a lot of my hesitant dislike of Mako/Asami is mostly because I desperately want Makorra to be endgame lmao
I don't think Bryke would ever reduce a female character to that after all the great ladies in ATLA. It's just frustrating because since LOK's pacing is drastically different from ATLA's we expect things to happen gradually, and not as sudden as things have been so far lol. Hopefully by s2 we'll all be accustomed to this type of storytelling in the avatar universe.
I'm with you on this one. I think she's going to be an interesting character but yeah, maybe this is why I can't really get behind Masami. The show does a good job of character building within the relationship (let's talk about our parents!) but at the same time she's just Mako's gf.
I'd even be happy for a scene where she's working on her moped or something.
