lord I hear you on the poor front. I'm just starting out myself...and I'm in PAIN
I'm a med student, so you can imagine the wonderful coverage that the docs give in our one and only 10-week course on drugs.... Anyway, I want to be well-informed, but I don't want to overdo it since it's literally impossible to learn everything in 10 weeks, does that make sense? I figured I'd ask someone who actually knows and can point me in the right direction.
cool! do you have any idea what you want to specialize in, if any? what school are you attending?
i don't understand why nursing school and med school curriculums do NOT emphasize pharmaceuticals... these are the TREATMENTS for god's sake >:/ sigh, smh
I'm 99% sure I'm going into surgery of some kind, but that's as far as I know right now. We shall see, it all depends on boards (only one year left to learn everything in the entire world!!!! ::cries::) and what rotations I enjoyed the most and such.
Yeah, I have absolutely no idea why they don't talk about pharms either. I get the feeling it's not something they focus on because we'll learn it in rotations. Which, ok fine, but it'd be nice to have some real time to learn what they're for, how they work, etc. ATM my class is mostly: one drug, the receptor, 2-3 therapeutic uses, 1-3 side effects, the end. And then they threw ~60 drugs at us over the past 3 weeks and I'm just sitting here going: WUT. I might cry cause all the names are throwing me big time. /rant
But thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you for the books! I'm going to check em out. I appreciate the help!!
you have a year left... i have about a MONTH to learn about 293,403,454 medications! SMH
ew :( well, not that our class schedule is much better... but yeah, it's a TON of info. and even i struggle with brand and generic names, and i've been working for over 2 years in retail
Ok I admit, you definitely have more of a right to freak out than me atm. But it does make me feel better to know that it's just a hard subject in general.
I've actually never heard of uptodate or lexicomp.....
I CAN appreciate it when it's phenomenal, and yeah, terrible cosplay is always good for a laugh. But everything in between just... I don't get it, lol.

Is there a good textbook that covers all the major classes of drugs, but isn't ridiculously detailed? I don't trust Amazon reviews....

it depends on what you're doing! are you a technician, certified tech, pre-pharm student, nurse, pre-med student, or pharmacist?
