Hello, crazed Pottermore stalkers! If you're already members of
ontd_hogwarts, feel free to use this post as a further outlet for PottermoreWatch discussion, etc. (Or just post your Twitters, why the hell not.) If you're not a member of
ontd_hogwarts, well we'd love to have you, so feel free to join - but if that's not your thing, we hope you still read this post, as it's to do with the
@hp_batsignal.
Anyway, It’s come to the attention of
swingtomars and myself that a few of you mentioned that you did NOT get a text from the Bat Signal last night when ~lightning struck~…if that’s the case, let’s get to the bottom of it, since we want to make sure you’re reliably informed tonight!
First and foremost, however, we need to thank
theguernica for the brilliant idea of creating the Bat Signal in the first place. I will never not love this fandom and the wonderful people like
theguernica who come up with these great ideas.
Now, if you don’t have a Twitter account, you should still be able to follow the Bat Signal from your mobile phone (without using the Internet) by just clicking the tiny phone icon near the “Follow” button. (You’ll only get updates from the Bat Signal, don’t worry.) Then, Twitter (which, in America at least, comes up as 40404) will text you when the Bat Signal is updated.
If, like me, you have a Twitter account and you didn’t get a text last night (thank God I was still online), even if you’d signed up for text alerts, you need to check that you have ENABLED TEXT MESSAGE NOTIFICATINS. You can do this in the ‘Mobile’ tab under ‘Settings.’ See below:
ALSO IMPORTANT is that you make sure you don't have your text alerts disabled for certain times of night. (As you can see above, I have NOT selected to turn off updates at any time. (Astutely pointed out by
caribou_cake and
yasaiya.)
Oh, and please note that standard message and data rates may apply etc etc etc legal jargon.
After that, it should be all set! Keep a watchful eye out, gang, and wait for the lighting to strike!

kewljules00799 PS GUYS, WE'RE ALSO GOING TO SEND OUT A TWEET FROM THE BAT SIGNAL WITH A LINK TO THIS POST, SO IF YOU GET A TEXT FROM TWITTER DON'T GET TOO OVER EXCITED.
ALSO, FYI, GUYS, THIS POST IS NOT LOCKED, AS THERE MAY BE A NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO FOLLOW THE BAT SIGNAL WHO AREN'T OFFICIAL MEMBERS OF THE COMM. SO, PLEASE TAKE NOTE, AND DON'T POST OR SAY ANYTHING THAT YOU WOULDN'T WANT TO BE TOO PUBLIC!
ETA: Tips from lovely ONTD_Hogwartians:
yunaresuka says, "Just a note, I clicked the little phone icon and then it sent me to settings, so I had to turn the text updates on. It didn't save the fact that I wanted texts from hp_batsignal so I had to go and click the little phone again. Just a note, if you hadn't already had it set up, it might not have saved that you wanted texts from hp_batsignal so you will have to set it up and then go click the phone icon again."
goo82 says, "Make sure the icon of the phone turns green. The first time I tried it, it took me to the phone set up page but didn't turn the action on. I had to go back to the bat signal twitter and click the phone again turning it green."
And one more thing from the Twitter-savvy
yunaresuka:
Here's how to use texting to turn your
@hp_batsignal alerts on or off...very useful for those sad individuals, like myself, who don't have smart phones.
Even more help from
yunaresuka, who might secretly work for Twitter tech support. Those of you having trouble listing your mobile phones (particularly any T-Mobile users!) check out this advice.
Thanks guys!
