Vanessa Lengies on tonight's Valentine's Day 'Glee': 'This is the episode to watch if you’re waiting

Feb 14, 2012 16:29

Tonight’s episode of Glee, fittingly titled “Heart,” is a big one for Vanessa Lengies’ character Sugar. The vocally (and maybe slightly mentally) challenged gal throws a giant soiree in honor of the holiday and ends up with two dudes, Artie (Kevin McHale) and Rory (Damian McGinty), fighting over her. And, according to Lengies, those characters aren’t the only ones in the romantic mood. “I know that my Twitter always explodes with questions about couples on the show,” says the actress. “This is the episode to watch if you’re waiting for some couples action.” EW talked to Lengies about tonight’s episode and next week’s big Regionals winter finale.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: So tell me about “Heart.” Sugar decides to throw a party right?
VANESSA LENGIES: Yes. It turns out that Sugar’s middle name is Valentina. Loves Valentine’s Day. She has her daddy rent out Breadstix and turn it into the Sugar Shack and throws the biggest Valentine’s Day party. But they have to have a date so that creates a lot of interesting story lines. It’s a really fun episode. I know that my Twitter always explodes with questions about couples on the show. This is the episode to watch if you’re waiting for some couples action.

And Sugar is choosing between Artie and Rory?
She’s being fought over, which is absolutely hysterical.

That must have been fun to have those two guys fight over you.
It was. I think I lost myself in it for a little bit for sure. Kevin McHale just won me over. I can’t believe how sexy he is in this number he did. My cheeks get red just thinking about it. It was pretty awesome.

I know. I was listening to “Let Me Love You” and I just thought it was fantastic.
Right! At first I was like that’s an old song. He just… wait til you see it.

Sugar didn’t wanna work with Artie before, though.
Because his leg would be skinnier than her arm. I think they took a scene out of that other episode in anticipation for “Heart” because at the end of that episode, Sugar had said to Artie in a deleted scene that he was so sweet when he defended Becky that she would consider going on a date with him. But I think they took it out because of the love triangle in this episode. So she probably forgot all about the arm thing. You never know what Sugar’s thinking.

Does Sugar pick between Artie and Rory by the end of the episode?
She picks one.

It sounds like the big group number is “Love Shack,” right? How was that?
Oh my God, it was so fun. It was such a fun song and it was supposed to just get everyone on their feet. We were on tables. Someone tweeted me a GIF yesterday and I showed it to the whole cast because it was so funny. It’s Harry on a table. Me on a table. Naya’s like pointing. Jenna’s doing a head swing to the side. It was so fun to do and that song you can’t help but dance to it. It definitely took us all over in this scene.

What does Sugar’s Valentine’s Day outfit look like? She has interesting wardrobe choices.
Oh my God. Oh my God. I don’t even know how to answer that question. I know I’ve said it in every interview I’ve done about Glee but I’m obsessed with their costume department. I think they reached the top of the bar for this party outfit she’s wearing. She’s just ridiculous. Harry Shum took an amazing picture on his phone because they had this stuffed animal, almost like a Furbie, on the set. He took a picture of it in the foreground and me behind it and we look like twins. I look like this big animal with a tiara.

Can you tease anything about Regionals?
Yeah we just finished filming. Regionals ends with a crazy cliff-hanger. I don’t know what they told you but it’s pretty crazy. My jaw was to the floor just reading it. I don’t think I’m supposed to talk about it.
