The past couple of weeks have given me time to reflect, and time to think over the events of the last few months. Consequently, I want to share my thoughts and feelings about what has happened. pic.twitter.com/WpWrlHxx74

A couple of things struck me with this press release. One, I was surprised that it was written in English and not in German (I know that amost all Germans can read or speak a decent level of English, but that is not the point) and two, he just says Angela Merkel and doesn't refer to her rank.

'I have two hearts, one German and one Turkish... not meeting him would have have been disrespecting my ancestors'

Wait. How? Isn't Erdogan just a politician (a supremely dodgy one, but still).

Ooooh, it was this picture. I'm sure I posted it. Idek. Life moves fast.

Mesut Ozil: A lot of his statement is correct and it’s good he said it. He has been harshly treated at times, but also been talked up in Germany at times too. Meeting Erdogan as a German international can’t be brushed off, given the Turkish president’s relations with the country.

This is a good thread. Especially this bit:

And whilst some of the media reaction in Germany was over the top (Matthaus is continually striving to be an idiot), Ozil can hardly be annoyed a German focused sponsor decided to distance themselves after the Erdogan meeting. They have no duty to him, he isn’t in their care.

Ozil: “What I can’t accept are German media outlets repeatedly blaming my dual-heritage and a simple picture for a bad World Cup on behalf of an entire squad” https://t.co/Md86W5QDrl

I don't know if Mesut Ozil's open letter will do more good than harm given how quickly public opinion has turned on him-- especially in Germany. You can be proud of your heritage without posing with a ruthless dictator like Erdogan. Just ask @Enes_Kanter.

Este ataque a @LorisKarius va a terminar alguna vez? Hablo de él como tantos otros guardametas. Hay muchos más problemas serios en el mundo joder! Dejar al chaval en paz! También es persona. Como lo somos todos!

Liverpool have. That's why they got Allison. I'd be surprised if Karius sees the inside of a goalmouth in an LFC shirt this year.

Wow.

Alphonso Davies will join #Bayern. But the Canadian will not move until January and will remain with the #Whitecaps until January ( @kicker)
