The ref is Spanish, and I swear Spanish refs are worse than the English ones (the German ones are a bit too 'by the book' for me, and rather inflexible - based on the European matches I've seen).

I do think the Tottenham Spurs game on Sunday really got Liverpool in the right frame of mind for Dortmund, tbh. It made Klopp decide to throw Origi on instead of Sturridge or Benteke, which was a justified choice for one. I noticed that LFC weren't so sloppy in their passing this time, and at times, even slowed down the game. LFC isn't Klopp's team as yet, he's come in mid season (without the benefit of a preseason) and pretty much had a schedule on full blast since his stepped in (it's only calmed down in the last month). Considering that training under Brendan Rodgers seemed to be a bit... lax, Klopp's new regime has come as a shock, to the players, to be honest.

People forget that the majority of the Dortmund team playing now were bedded into the first team by Klopp.

Who forgot about that? That was the whole concept of the # narrative of Klopp visiting Dortmund, truly? How under Tuchel they've developed aspects of possession and counter acttacking, but they were very much a Klopp team in essence, but Tuchel has made them better. The message has been as much as they came under Klopp, they've moved on handily, with their new coach, whereas Klopp's time in English football has been marked by hiccoughs.

To even extend the wretched metaphor, Klopp was pretty much visiting the old wife and kids who've gone on to thrive without him, whilst rocking up to the Europa party with his second wife, who's fallen from grace, reputation in tatters, living off of faded glories.

The thought that with Dortmund and them breathing down Bayern's back that an English team would be a pushover was even pushed in the the English media, everyone conveniently forgetting that Tottenham decided to sidestep Europa when Pochettino realised that a title win was in their sights.

To be honest, winning the Europa League is above LFC at the moment, but for the first time in a long time, the team has spine, and pride. They didn't embarrass the gaffer, or let the travelling side down. That's the very least I hoped for, tbh.

The good thing is, that as it stands, with the run that Spurs (I know, but still), LFC and Manchester City have done, the English coefficient is safe for another year. Hopefully come next season, the other clubs will be up for it (West Ham and Soton, I'm looking at you) and safeguard our coefficient.

I hope LFC get through but the return leg will be tough. Not to mention teams like Sevilla (who LOVE this competition) and Villarreal who are growing in leaps and bounds.

Onward!

Just remembered something that I forgot to add in my first post - we play Schalke this weekend so yeah... Good luck with the next round of Europa league because I think Tuchel will prioritise the pride of the Derby over Europa.

No in my eyes the narrative was Klopp returns to his old workplace, for me the narrative surrounded just him. From what I saw in the media, he was the sole focus as opposed to the fact that he was returning to play against a team that he built. I don't think Klopp was at a disadvantage of not having a preseason with Liverpool for this game in particular - maybe for the premier league it would have been useful to get used to the PL pace etc.. But for the Dortmund game? He knows the intricacies of the Dortmund play, so perhaps in terms of strategy and tactics for the team, this was a lot easier and more leading by a 'script'.

I see this in a way that Liverpool were very impressive and Dortmund suffered psychologically - I wish we had challenged Liverpool a lot more tbh. It all rides on the Derby game on Sunday now - if we win, have we pushed ourselves too much? But if we lose, the psychological factor will play harder. Plus I think if we field our best squad for Schalke, the same team will play Liverpool (touch wood there's no injuries for us!)

Who are Liverpool playing this weekend? I hope there is a more reasonable ref (is there such a thing?!) for the return leg! I don't think Dortmund can afford any more yellows because if we get through, half the team will be out of play if we have a similar ref again!

LFC play Stoke. Supposedly people are thinking that Klopp might field a second team, but with Liverpool and Stoke being five points off European places, I think Klopp will want to win, to be honest. People expected him to field a weak side against Spurs on Sunday for Thursday, but Klopp put out his strongest XI.

We lost Jordan Henderson, as in for both team and country. That's pretty aggragavating right now, but Hendo has had ankle, heel and now leg problems. Call his season DONE.
