Tottenham Hotspur 1 - 0 Crystal Palace
All you need to know about Son Hueng Min is- tabloid editors are LOVING the puns around his name. If I hear "Here Comes The Son" again... *shakes fist at sky*
But seriously, Son is the business. Word has it that Pochettino was following Sonny's exploits (the team call him Sonny) for years, like wanting to get him at Southampton. When Sonny walked into the room after signing his contract (word has it), Pochettino said to him, "What took you so long?" Eriksen is back in the side (whoo hoo!!!!) and Lamela had more good than ill in his game yesterday. Pochettino has said that Lamela has to show up or move out of Spurs this season. Kane has yet to score a goal, but he's such a good all around player (passes well, holds up the ball well, relatively unselfish), I can see why he's on the field
Dele Alli has gone from being a sub to breaking into first team in a matter of... six weeks? From his turn at the Audi Cup to first team PL where he ran the full 90 mins. Classy player, he can read a game, and knows how to improvise. Sonny and himself seem to always be looking for each other in games.
Eric Dier has gone from right back, to centre back (he hated the position) and now slotted into midfield as a DM (defensive midfielder) and grows into it every game. It means that Vertongen and Alderweireld can see about their game because they don't have to be bailing out Debemle or Bentaleb. Who might have hurt his hand in a motorcycle accident, but not really. He's nursing a wound on his foot, probably.
Southampton 2- 3 Manchester United
Southampton bottled it, tbh
Luke Shaw got a shout out. You heard that Hector Moreno and his coach rocked up to the hospital where Shaw was recuperating after an operation? They came unannounced, wanting to seek an audience, but didn't know if Shaw would have turned them away. Luke Shaw actually invited both player and coach in, an apology was given and accepted. D'awww... only for Moreno to injure another player on Sunday
For all my shade at Schweinsteiger, credit to him for just (literally!) rolling with the punches in the PL, lol. I don't know what the Southampton team was on yesterday
Luke Shaw and Memphis Depay share a budding bromance, it seems. They really get on
Casualty of cramps. I don't know what to make of Martial as yet. Is he worth £36 m, raising to £56m due to various incentives and add ons? I don't know, but personality wise, he seems like a good teammate and competitor. He will score and win, but he doesn't seem mean.
Liverpool 1 - 1 Norwich
There's a thread over at reddit which is called
'What Is The Current Elephant In The Room At Your Club' meaning, that there's a glaring fact/presence that no one really wants to speak about, although it's there. So, I'll say it, for the amount of money LFC has paid out for players under Rodgers, they are good, whereas they should have been great. That LFC supporters would always say, "Could be worse, we could be Spurs" and yet Spurs got Deli Alli and Eric Dier for £10 million, and we got... Lallana for £25 million and have yet to have a full season with him. That he's not even a top player, much less a top, top, top player (h/t to Sir Alex Ferguson). Milner is not so good in midfield and a shit captain. He shrinks when he's needed to grow.
Ings scored, good for him. He's a hard working lad, I like him. There's a bit of gossip around why he turned down Tottenham. He went so far as to meet with the owner (Levy) and coach (Pochettino), because they'd put in a bid for his services, yeah? He decided to pass on Spurs because he was concerned that with Spurs, players who come to them riding high on their careers, tend to leave Spurs with the equivalent of a ding on theirs. He has a point with Soldado leaving Spurs with two goals and tearing up La Liga for Villarreal. Or with Lamela on form in Serie A but seems to have lost the plot over here
Moreno was my MOTM. Direct, got that pace, lovely crosses... but Rodgers put him on out of desperation, he doesn't like Moreno, because Moreno was a committee buy
The last elephant in the room? Liverpool hasn't been a top club for sometime, and Rodgers seems to have hasten its decline rather than halt it. Rodgers isn't a coach for the top half of the PL. He hates European competitions, doesn't seem to do cup competitions well, and *sigh* I'm tired of feeling like this when it comes to watching LFC. It's the hope that kills you, because the players are good, because they've switched off, but FSG won't do anything until the stands are empty again, because the football we've been given is such bull crap. This is partially the reason why this post is so late. I kept putting it off in order to make the anger recede
Marseille 0 - 1 Lyon
Marseille fans caused their Ligue 1 match against Lyon to be delayed for 23 minutes, after throwing bottles onto the pitch and hanging an effigy of former favourite Mathieu Valbuena. Referee Ruddy Buquet sent the players to the dressing rooms in the 62nd minute with Lyon leading 1-0 following Alexandre Lacazette's first-half penalty. The game had been briefly interrupted earlier in the second half when former OM player Mathieu Valbuena was targeted by objects thrown at him while he was trying to take a corner kick.
Barcelona 4- 1 Levante
What will Barcelona do when Messi retires?
OP: done- just tweaking the code a bit because LJ is being buggy. Any cheers, jeers, corrections and commentary pushback, you know the drill, right?
