At first i was amused by this whole De Gea saga but the smugness of the United fans is irritating me. We're not the ones who lost in this scenario. I feel like Man United fucked it up and they will regret this later on. We have a perfectly awesome GK in Navas and we'll be able to sign De Gea for free in the next transfer window. Also, they have a GK who will be unhappy there because his club fucked up his demands in the last minute. Who's laughing now?

I was never really that excited about De Gea coming to Madrid because I wanted Navas to have his moment this season. It was really only P*rez who insists on getting him because he's Spanish. So imo the losers in this scenario are United and P*rez.

U don't know which club is (more) at fault here, some sources are saying Real (tbh I think both were hoist by their own petard being smug and trying to have the upper hand over the other club - and DDG too not having made up his mind sooner), but the club who got the bad end of the non-deal is clearly United. A player who doesn't want to be there and losing on 35(!!) million assuming he leaves for free next summer. It's embarrassing that they had all summer to do it and threw it all away on the deadline day ...

Real Madrid has done it before though jazzypom September 1 2015, 12:45:31 UTC
Their deal with Bale (United were in contention and half expected Bale across the line until Real Madrid came in and gazumped the deal at last minute). So yeah, there's some transfer history between United and RM - and not all pretty.

i'm choosing to think that RM intentionally (but secretly) sabotaged this deal, because they apparently won't appeal to uefa. de gea stays at united and navas stays in madrid.

If I were running United I would've done everything I could to keep De Gea and Valdes extremely happy. Aloysius's mileage obviously varies.

What it must be like behind closed doors at United rn... :p
