Amazing: Jorge Jesus, longest-serving manager in Benfica's history, leaving the champions for fierce city rivals, 3rd-placed Sporting.

i know it's hard to grasp the magnitude of this when one doesn't follow the portuguese league, but i'm 100% serious when i say this shocked me far more than Blatter resigning. it's like Mourinho up and going to, like, Arsenal all of a sudden. it's SO weird.

also, this happened

this guy is a gem. i find it incredible that the guy who's basically the club's spokesperson is allowed to speak publicly like this. mess.

so after Ancelotti was sacked benfiquistas were actually convinced that JJ was going to RM? lol! the forum comments really are worth it, ty! :)

btw about what you were saying in the other thread, i had no idea about Marco Silva no name boys past. any rumors about where he's gonna go? i actually read Porto more than once, lol irl.

lollllllllllllll

lmao there's also rumours ancelloti is going to benfica and i'm just sitting here like 'oh honey'

but yeah on marco silva--one of my besties is pretty close to one of marco's highschool friends and he's always been a diehard benfiquista. doesn't bother me much, but it did amuse me to no end that benfica had a sportinguista coach and sporting had a benfiquista coach. i've seen a few rumours pointing him to napoli, but the most consistent reports put him in sevilla for 1M, so now it's just a matter of waiting and seeing.

(my favorite ridiculous rumour so far is that jesus actually speaks pretty good portuguese, he just pretends he doesn't as a private joke to himself for training benfica)

i just heard that joke about how decided to stay in portugal since he's starting to get a hang of the language, lol. but that's much much better!

As a Benfica fan who took a sabbatical last year because I couldn't stand JJ, I'll share my popcorn with you!

My dad is sportinguista, and he's absolutely fuming, because he was always mocking benfica through Jesus. How the tables have turned!

On a more serious note, I hope SCP had some sort of rule in their contract that Jesus had to honor the tradition of using Academy players, because we all know how much that guy loves using portuguese players.

last rumours point to him being in full control of sporting's football, starting with the youth teams, so i'd imagine it's part of the contract

tbh it's not like he had that much to choose from when it comes to young portuguese players in benfica. as much as i roll my eyes right out of my head at all the hype the media puts on the young ones coming out of their academy, it ends up doing so much more harm than good. they build them up to be the ~the next eusebio~ and put them on cover after cover and then when they inevitably fuck up because they're young and young players fuck up the public has no patience for them and wants them banned from the club.

benfica and benfica fans are too focused on immediate results to ever be much of an important player when it comes to integrating young players into their A team and i can't see it changing any time soon. i hope i'm wrong, for the good of the NT, but i sincerely doubt there'll be any change, regardless of who's in charge next year

All the talk right now of choosing a manager that knows how to use the Seixal Academy well makes me a bit hopefull. But yeah, Benfica has a track record of over-hypeing players who then understandably buckle under pressure.

my dad is sportinguista too and he's actually really happy - firstly because he rates JJ as a manager, and secondly (and on a more petty level, lol) because his best friend is benfiquista eally, really mad at all of this right now.
