It's seen as rather chavy, and in a lot of ways, as much as England has stomped down on the football hooliganism (that was one of the main reasons why we were banned from European competitions for a while, that and the stadia deaths with Juventus and LFC fans), football is still seen as a working class sport (although the ticket prices haven't reflected that in years). So it's one thing to wear a football jersey to a match, but to wear it out and about? It's cute when you're five or six, but as an adult ? Nah.
I know some bars that ban you from coming in with a football jersey on in my neck of the woods.

That being said, I do see some women who rock a Chelsea top, but they tend to wear leather tights and knee high boots, anything to make it sexed up, that sort of thing.

I'd rock an Atlético jersey because the team gets some money from it and it's a handsome kit- but short of rambling in the countryside, I can't see where else I'd wear it. But if I wore a rugby jersey, I'd get all sorts of approving nods and "Twickenham, eh?" :P

Ah, Ramo's tattoo? That's supposed to be Michael Jackson in silhouette.

Ah, that. I thought you were perhaps referring to wearing a jersey of a non-English club. I guess that's common in most places, I don't see many adults were football jerseys here either, only in the gym or so, it's more usual for kids. I sometimes wear it when I do sports, though! xD

I've seen Dortmund jerseys when I've gone on walks - I think the parents like the yellow and black so if their sprog wanders off, they have a visual check. It's pretty high vis.

When I vacationed in Malagá I saw a lot of people rocking Chelsea shirts? Granted the kit is pretty sweet this year, but in a bar? But yeah, I'd get a long sleeved jersey (which seems to be for the players only though), and have it when walking/rambling - they look as if they can wick the sweat away while keeping you warm at the same time.

It's just football jerseys in general over here? I do know that for the ladies, the football clubs do try and have a stylish alternative - like Spurs with their cabled ladies jumpers with the Spurs logo to the right.

when I was in Croatia I saw a lot of people with all kinds of football shirts but I think that's because people on holiday prefer something comfortable, like a football shirt.
different wardrobe rules on holiday compared to home
