I don't begrudge Gerrard going, in retrospect he should have left when Real came calling, but I think last year was it for him.

We do need a good goalie, for failing that, a coach to work with our number one. We do need a good striker too.

I'd unload about the players who Rodgers know won't fit into the system he's trying to do, tbh. I'd like a new manager next August, but let me get this wish list now.

I don't blame Gerrard for wanting to leave either, it'll list be a very jarring (and saddening) paradigm shift.

I'd get rid of Rodgers too, but there aren't too many options to replace him..same with the striker situation. I do wish Liverpool had snatched up San Memo for goalie when they had a chance.

They say that Memo is just at the same level as Migs, he just had a good world cup. Romero (the Argentine NT goalie) is out of contract for £500k- I'd take a punt on him.

Rodgers, we'll just have to limp on with him till the summer, I guess. *BIG SIGH*

Well Memo was on a free transfer last summer so if they were the same level, they would've gotten him for less (and maybe spent a little more upfront, though then again with their mgmt they might not have).

I think Rodgers is really out of his depth, and while I think that all coaches should be given chances, maybe he reached too high too fast with Liverpool? Lol idk what they're gonna do about him tbh.

Yeah, Rodgers really should have passed on the liverpool job when they came to him. He was only in the PL two seasons at the time the job offer came around, and managing a mid table PL table vs managing a team in the top 4 (more games for one), is different. Rodgers small club mentality has hobbled our season on all fronts ( ... )

LOL, yeah. Rodgers had luck last year, Suárez used LFC as a shop window for Barça and the engineered the bite so that LFC (after standing by him two times prior) would have had to let him go. Also, Suárez was clawing to get out of his contract for a while (when Arsenal came sniffing). Sturridge was quick, with Sterling and Coutinho - it just worked perfectly, and Rodgers just rode the wave.

The fact that it's taken him until January to get some semblance of form in the team and even then we're still shaky suggests that we have a ways to go. I know that with Gerrard leaving, for a few of my friends, once he goes, so does their LFC support. In a lot of ways he was the club's conscience and bellweather, and stayed beyond when it was wise. Now that he's going, well...

It will be an interesting five months.

Lol I totally agree with you that Rodgers lucked into his entire last season, but I wouldn't give Suarez that much credit. Of course he wanted out (Gerrard corroborated that story) but I've read articles about how Madrid had offered more money than Barcelona before the bite, and then they dropped out afterward, and how LFC management was happy to get rid of Suarez for slightly less because of the negative image of bite--not to say that those sources are completely reliable, but using the bite to engineer a move? Doesn't quite click for me.

I'm not looking forward to a Gerrard-less Liverpool for much of the same reasons. Of course they could do well under either a different manager or even just without Stevie (after all Southampton sold most of their squad at the beginning of this season and they're in the top 4), but there'd just be something missing. =/

Gerrard himself said, that when he heard Suárez had bitten Chellini at the World Cup, that he knew he'd engineered a move from the club (in the sense that, because LFC had stood by Suárez twice before, and had gotten sanctioned by the FA twice before, they really couldn't have a third go around, especially with him missing games). Gerrard and Rodgers have said that they both had expected Suárez to come back for another year (2014/2015 season), and both have expressed surprise that he did what he did. At the end of it, they did get £70 million (Barcelona is saying £60 or something strange, LFC said more) from his sale.

Well, yeah, you're not the first person to say that. Gerrard for a lot of people is the heart and soul of LFC, who stayed when other top teams wanted him, and saw everyone go. But I think it can only be good for the team though. Let Gerrard have his adventure, and see how different leagues and clubs work before coming back to LFC to do a Ryan Giggs.

Are you srs lol wow Suarez, I underestimated him. In the article I'd read, it talked about how Suarez had wanted to move at the end of 12/13, and Stevie had advised him to wait one more year for the Real/Barca (rather than going to Chelsea or Arsenal), and that's what ended up happening.

Well I guess it's all up to Stevie G's own personal thoughts in the end, like whether it ended up being worth it to stay at Liverpool all these years when he could've gone somewhere else and won something. It's strange to see all the comments now saying how he should've gone to Madrid when he had the chance, when really you wonder if part of his legend is that he stayed.

I think - and I know I'm being presumptuous about this- I think he stayed for his dead cousin, tbh. The inquiry for the 96 only came to light this year after twenty five years of campaigning, of LFC standing by the organisation who wanted justice for Hillsborough. It's come to light that Gerrard gave money to the charity/organisation to carry on when they had lean times, and 2014 was when it all came together. He got pretty emotional last year on the day (it happened in April). He's only ever mentioned his cousin in passing once (who went to the stadium to watch the match and never came home. In addition, this was in the 1980s, and Margaret Thatcher was gutting the industries in the North West, breaking the unions - which were working class- and the Sun slandered the victims of the disaster, and it was all hush hush). LFC turned out every year to mourn the passing and call for justice. The inquiry only came about last year or the year before ( ... )
