... Over what seems to a mistery.
Ricardo Carvalho renounced today to the Portuguese NT, claiming to have felt "disrespected and wounded" in his dignity.
"I feel in perfect physical and mental shape, like my performances to my club and NT have shown. If they make me feel like a surpluss and don't tell me, the only way out is for me to leave." says the Real Madrid player, in a letter adressed to several media outlets. The player abandoned today the NT practice in Óbidos, without offering an explanation, and did not travel to Cyprus, where Portugal plays next Friday, for the Euro 2012 qualifier.
"I have done 75 games for the NT and feel profoundly dedicated to the defense of my team's good name. I've never felt so disrespected and wounded in my dignity. Amongst my peers, I'm just another athlete. However, like the others, I also deserve consideration and respect." states Ricardo Carvalho. The player adds that he has always defended that a team is made of "companionship, union and sacrifice for a greater cause". "I did not intend to end my career in the NT this way, but I do it conscient and sure that I have always honored my country." stated Ricardo Carvalho in the same letter, finishing with a "thank you very much to all the portuguese." When asked about the incident, Cristiano Ronaldo stated that: "No one in the team has a captive spot, things change according to the fitness and readiness of players and decisions of the manager. The manager knows best and we need to trust him."
