no one cares about primera division

What does First Division have that Second Division doesn't - besides the topclass football stars, great stadiums, more class, higher budget and it not being a disgrace to play in? Not much, I tell you.

Second Division means rivals you've never faced, travelling through the whole country, making small changes that seem huge in comparison to everything else, the return of players who really love your club, winning a league you've never won before, and coming up with a thousand excuses to pretend you don't care!

River has been doing great (let's not jinx it) so far, even if it's only been 2 games. A win 1-0 at home against Chacarita and another 3-1 over Independiente de Rivadavia de Mendoza (say what?) makes him one of the two leaders.

Yeah, yeah, I know there's still 36 (!) games to go, but hey, it's something. River didn't score more than 2 goals in the same match since December 2010, and it's mostly thanks to the return of these two amazing men:

Fernando Cavenaghi

You may know him from Spartak Moscow, Bordeaux and Mallorca. Current captain of the team.

Alejandro "Chori" Domínguez

Played in Rubin Kazan, Zenit and Valencia. You can usually find him here tweeting nonsense and arguing with Valencia fans.

They're both amazing players and were very important in both victories.

And also, our amazing coach, former player and eternal club idol, Matias Almeyda.

The return of Nicolas Domingo and the signings of Carlos Sanchez, Martin Aguirre, Agustin Alayes, Luciano Vela, Cristian Ledesma, Cesar Gonzalez and Andres Rios are slowly leading the club towards its rebirth. Besides, many kids that have been at River all their lives are finally making it to Primera: Roberto Pereyra, "Keko" Villalba, Lucas Ocampos, Santiago Gallucci Otero, Ezequiel Cirigliano, German Pezzella, Leandro Gonzalez Pirez, among others. (I'm naming them because you'll be hearing more of them in the future, I can assure you that).

And finally, our goalkeeper is cute. No, really, he is.

Last game, played in Mendoza, the president of Independiente de Rivadavia, knowing how many people follow River everywhere, went against the AFA's designation that forbids away fans to go to games and opened a part of the stadium for the "neutral" fans. Of course, plenty of River fans showed up (even if supposedly one wasn't allowed to go wearing a River shirt):

Seeing this, the AFA has changed their decision after 6 years and now away fans can go to games! :D Which doesn't change the fact that River still has to play 4 or 5 games at home with no fans (the official decision hasn't been communicated yet) and at another stadium, probably Huracan's.

Anyway, that puts an end to this pretty much pointless post. Just remember: support River Plate! We'll see each other in First Division next year.

Can we have a River Plate tag?

clubs: river plate, holy fucking shit, league: primera división argentina, oh god please no, facts figures statistics, "that guy", epic, oh god please yes, results, i know who you signed last summer
