A 20 million pound deal for Henderson? Really? He´s a good player but he´s not worth 20m

Andy Carroll: £35m. Jordan Henderson: £20m. Adam Johnson: £6m. Liverpool, getting the worst value from the north east since 2010.

Liverpool are going crazy, I don't know what's going on, but I guess I prefer them spending a lot of money on footballers that are good but maybe don't worth these sums, then spending a little money on players like Poulsen, or getting Cole on a free transfer (though paying him tons of money every week).

The thing is he might be a good young player with potential but he´s not a proven player. In future if he goes on to be a superstar people will probably say he was a bargain, but whether he is or he isn´t can only be seen with the benefit of hindsight and right now the fact is it looks like you guys have way over spent.

It is just another example of how an England cap can slap an extra 10 - 20 mill onto you transfer value, and people wonder why managers look abroad for cheap talent rather than buying in home grown players.

Also, where exactly are you gonna play him when you already have Gerrard, Lucas, Maxi, Meireles, Spearing, Shelvey etc. in the midfield? Are you shipping some out or do you reckon Kenny will stick him back out on the wing like he used to be?

Well, he is a wide player (originally) and we don't have any wide players at all, so I guess that's where he'll be playing. My personal opinion is that we should loan out Shelvey and maybe Spearing too.

Who cares if he's over prized or not, really?

I want Spearing to have a chance though. He was so good last season he deserves it.

You mean you don´t care that your club is shelling out way more money they need to on players?

I mean, as a Utd fan I have no problem watching you blow millions in overpriced players, but as a football fan it´s ridiculous to see how overinflated a pricetag can become just because a player´s English - regardless of their abilities

I know, and I've said before that I would prefer us buying cheaper, foreign players but that's apparently not the way Kenny wants to do it, and if Kenny wants to do it in another way, let's do so then because I trust him. And our owners are (apparently) very wealthy too so. I can't see where the problem is, other than that it'll probably push the prizes on English players up even higher.

Forget buying in players at all - why buy in the likes of Henderson when you have young, players of the future in the likes of Shelvey and Spearing already at the club?

It´s not like you need him for the home grown quota, if you´re just replacing like for like, so shelling out 20m is just frittering away money you could be using to buy in more defensive players - a LB and maybe a CB - and maybe an experienced winger.

Just because your owners have the money, doesn´t mean they shouldn´t care about getting ripped off.

you're forgetting that we can't attract top quality players because we aren't in europe at all and we're still rebuilding

not only do we have to pay more for english players, we have to pay more to get people to come here in the first place. it's a long term rebuilding process at lfc. it isn't a quick fix.

so yes, we have to pay more and get ripped off because of the position we are in. and yes some of the names you mentioned in our midfield are getting shipped out.

I get you about the whole not being in Europe and so having to pay more situ but for this specific situation, it´s like I´ve said - what does Henderson bring to the team that young players you already own - and didn´t need to shell out megabucks for - ala Spearing and Shelvey don´t?

Surely it would make more sense to have saved the 20m you spent on Henderson and used it to buy in a defender or two, maybe a dedicated winger and given Spearing/Shelvey a chance to step up to the plate?

I think they will buy defenders and wingers anyway.

Oh yeah, you´re probably still gonna buy those players but it just makes more sense to use the 20m you spent on Henderson to put towards the "buying players we *NEED* fund" rather than spending it elsewhere

The thing with our squad is that we don't have any wide players at all. We can't use any of our own wide players because those who are good are like 16 or 17, and maybe that's a little too young when they've got to face more experienced strikers and midfielders.

We are going to buy those players as well. I wouldn't want to say Henderson's overpriced (oh well let's face it, everyone's overpriced nowadays, to the point we've gotten used to it) until I've seen him play, but I do agree with you that buying in 4-5 other players that cost as much as he did might be a bit of a waste.

i mean it's fairly obvious that we're going for a young core of english players that want a chance to prove their worth and help build back the image of liverpool football club.

plus we've exchanged torres and ngog for carroll, henderson and a small profit. the board isn't that stupid.
