Right, just for fun, I thought it’d be fun to go through each game an analyze matchwinners. Not Man of the Match performances, as that’s subjective, but scientifically, the person who got the winning goal in the game. So, hypothetically, even in an 8-0 rout with all but the first goal coming from one player, the person who scored first would be the technically the “matchwinner”, in a 2-1 victory it would be the person who scored the second goal for the winning team, in a 4-3 victory, the person who scored the fourth goal for the winning team of the game chronologically. Why? Well, because one can never have enough pointless trivia about their own team, of course!
I did it with my team, Chels: -
Blackpool vs Chelsea: Frank Lampard (pen)
Chelsea vs Manchester United: Frank Lampard (pen)
Copenhagen vs Chelsea: Anelka
Sunderland vs Chelsea: John Terry
Bolton vs Chelsea: Drogba
Chelsea vs Blackburn: Branislav Ivanovic
Chelsea vs Ipswich: Salomon Kalou
Chelsea vs Bolton: Florent Malouda
Chelsea vs MSK Zilina: Florent Malouda
Chelsea vs Fulham: Michael Essien
Chelsea vs Spartak Moscow: Drogba (pen)
Blackburn vs Chelsea: Branislav Ivanovic
Chelsea vs Wolves: Florent Malouda

Wigan vs Chelsea: Florent Malouda
Chelsea vs West Brom: Florent Malouda
(I started with the first competitive premier league win as the base, then used all Carling Cup, FA Cup and Champions League games.)
Tally:
Malouda: 6
Drogba: 3
Kalou: 3
Anelka: 2
Ivanovic: 2
Frank Lampard: 2
John Terry: 2
Zhirkov: 1
Michael Essien: 1
Three match-winning penalties.
Now you! (if you’re as sad and bored as me, that is :-p)
Should be interesting to see this again at the end of the season.
