Jermain Defoe plans Tottenham return in time for Arsenal game
• Defoe recovering fast following ankle surgery
• Spurs hit by gloomy news over Ledley King

Jermain Defoe intends to play some part in next month's derby against Arsenal after enjoying a quicker-than-expected recovery from ankle surgery.

The Tottenham Hotspur and England striker damaged ligaments in the joint when on international duty against Switzerland on 7 September and after the operation, it was said he was not expected to return until December.

But he has been working in the gym and is poised to begin running again. So encouraging has his progress been, moreover, that staff estimate he will be back in two to three weeks, which would see him recover fitness in time for the derby at the Emirates on 20 November.

Harry Redknapp feels that had Defoe been at his disposal for the past seven weeks the team may have taken more points in the Premier League, turning tight matches into victories or draws.

Tottenham have drawn at West Bromwich Albion and against Everton at home during the period Defoe has been out, and they also lost at West Ham United. The striker has only one club goal to his name this season, from four appearances, but in previous years he tends to have scored at least five or six by this stage.

Redknapp has been given somewhat gloomier news from elsewhere in the treatment room, with Ledley King unsure when he will be able to return from the torn muscle in a groin that he suffered at Fulham the weekend before last. King does not feel any better now than he did when he picked up the injury, which he sustained when he stretched to cut out a cross in the 2-1 victory

The central defender's chronic knee problems are well-documented but the fear at Tottenham is that he is getting more and more injuries elsewhere on his body. He was 30 this month and he hardly ever trains. Privately, the club's staff think it is a "miracle" that they get the matches out of him that they do.

With Michael Dawson some way off a return as he recovers from serious knee-ligament damage and Jonathan Woodgate fighting to save a career threatened by long-term groin trouble, William Gallas, Younes Kaboul and Sébastien Bassong are the fit centre-backs at Redknapp's disposal, although the midfielder Tom Huddlestone can play in the position if necessary.

Redknapp's other major injury casualty is the midfielder Jamie O'Hara, who will remain out for some weeks following a back operation.

Tottenham face two glamorous fixtures in quick succession, against Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday followed by the visit of Internazionale in the Champions League next Tuesday.

tbh i'll only believe it when i see it...that said does anyone want to join my pre-man utd prayer circle

Spurs still without Huddlestone

Tottenham will once again be without Tom Huddlestone for the Barclays Premier League game at Manchester United. The midfielder has failed to recover from the groin injury that forced him to miss last weekend's 1-1 draw with Everton.

:(

So the NFL is having a game in London this Sunday (49ers v Broncos dohoho) and as part of the promotion (because Spurs did some stuff in the Bay Area with the San Jose Earthquakes, Oakland A's and the 49ers over the summer) Michael Dawson took some amazing pictures. Then again I think 90% of his pictures are amazing so I'm not the most ~objective~ person to ask.

:D can that smile return to the pitch asap plz
