Love has no shape

OK, so after reading this post and many other posts that are connected to homophobia in the past, I started thinking that maybe we here as a football community should stop talking and posting funny gifs and start acting! Well, we can still talk and post funny gifs, lol. (:

This community has more than 7300 members and I believe many of the people ( Read more... )

Maybe people can wear some kind of ribbon or symbol to games that means "I support gay footballers whoever you are!" :) Maybe a rainbow football.

This is a great idea!! Like a rainbow armband with a football on it. What would it take to make them?

(We also need multiple forms of support, including some for those of us unable to make it to games that can contribute monetarily and what not, as well.)

I have no idea what to do about the situation, but the idea of uniting as a community to tackle an issue in football that is as prevalent and horrible as hooliganism and racism is just wonderful, OP.

Does anyone (who knows German) know more about Philipp Lahm's anti-AIDS/anti-homophobia charity campaign? I know it exists but I hardly know anything about it or how to contribute to it, which makes me a bad activist and a bad Lahm fangirl at the same time. XD In all seriousness, there are (a few) footballers out there who feel strongly that homophobia is an issue in football that needs to be changed/stopped, and I'd love to see if we can find a way to contribute through them, to show that it's a player issue as well as a fan issue. :D

Well, it just struck me. We're so many people here. 7000, is a lot of people, and we should do something about the things we complain about.

I didn't know about Lahm's charity. That's so cool of him.

Yeah, he actually was cover boy of FRONT, a German gay magazine, in their Jan/Feb 2008 issue. He had an interview discussing it, participating as an ambassador in World AIDS day, talking about educating people on safer sex all over the world, how he would support any gay teammates (but wouldn't forcefully out anyone), stuff like that. And people wonder why he's my favorite footballer? :D

Some rambling ideas... tonstant_weader September 11 2010, 01:46:32 UTC
This is great... I know from experience it's definitely easier to partner with existing foundations for campaign ideas than to start your own foundation for sure. Online petitions, Facebook groups, tweets and re-tweets can help spread the message though which is easy for anyone to do and basically free. Also, promoting and having a "Day" can help other media report on it (look at Sad Keanu Day or 90210 day ( ... )

Your comment is great. I agree with all of it. I think it could be really good if we join something. Also, thank you for the links. I didn't know about that campaign.

I always though Sad Keanu was a scene from a movie, but now I read that it was a RL moment that was captured of him, lol! What are the Sad Keanu day and 90210 day?

Well, 90210 day was seriously just people celebration 9/2/10 and remembering the TV show Beverly HIlls: 90210. The point: I heard about this on CNN's national news coverage.

Sad Keanu was an internet meme started on tumblr (i shit you not) and ended up having an online "Cheer Up Keanu" Day that was reported by all kinds of major (serious) media outlets at least in the US:
http://www.time.com/time/arts/article/0,8599,1996460,00.html

Also, it ended up leading to a message from Keanu to people that he was doing OK, really, haha. That level of attention was what struck me. If a silly internet thing can get that, why not better causes, right?

Yes, we should start a petition online or something, showing support for gay footballers and being against homophobia in football.

And im really into campaigns like this, i would really help anyone who wanted to do a serious campaign for this!!
