Yes, they're OUT. But there are still news from them.

Buffon: 'Humiliation is good for us'

Gianluigi Buffon feels the first round World Cup exit is a good thing. “If we’d have qualified, we wouldn’t have examined ourselves the same way.”

“Nobody could’ve imagined we would go out in the first round, especially after that draw.

“However, even if we had qualified, we would not have gone very far. This is what I realised over the last few days.

“Perhaps this humiliation can be useful for the future and force us to examine ourselves carefully. We need to meditate on what we are really worth.”

Buffon only played 45 minutes of the World Cup, as he went off at half-time against Paraguay with a herniated disc in his back.

Pirlo: 'The end of an era'

Italy crashed out of the World Cup in the group phase just four years after lifting the trophy in Berlin.

“We absolutely shamed ourselves,”

he said of the 3-2 loss to Slovakia. “We didn’t win the game and the fault lies with everyone.

“We are a squad and the responsibility must be shared out between everybody.”

With France also going out, this is the first time ever that the two Finalists from the previous tournament failed to progress past the group stage.

“Is it the end of an era? Yes, I think so,” noted Pirlo. “However, I am at the Coach’s disposal for the future.”

Many of the 2006 stars are hanging up their international boots, including Fabio Cannavaro and Gennaro Gattuso.

Gattuso: 'Bottom of the barrel'

Gennaro Gattuso’s final Italy match was a bitter pill to swallow. “We’ll get medals for shame. We scraped the bottom of the barrel.”

He was among the ‘Heroes of Berlin’ who were given medals by the government in recognition of their 2006 World Cup triumph, earning the titles of ‘Cavaliere del Lavoro.’

“When we won the World Cup they gave us medals for our work, now they’ll make us a Cavaliere of Shame,” slammed Rino.

“It’s only right that we should be treated that way after a group stage exit. All of Italian football needs to take a long, hard look at itself.

“This evening we scraped the bottom of the barrel.”

So... What do you think about it? All of them are guilty? Should Fabio and Gattuso leave the NT? Is being Buffon a bit deppressive and pessimistic? Has Andrea Pirlo the best hair in the whole world?
